PHASE: 1 Back to Church

Under the direction of the First Presidency and our SSR Stake Presidency:

2ND WARD PHASE: 1 BACK TO CHURCH PLAN

SACRAMENT MEETING WILL RESUME ON A LIMITED BASIS

ORANGE – FOR OUR SAFETY

Please continue to Worship at Home if you:

Are experiencing any symptoms of illness of any kind
Are at high risk due to health reasons or age
Just do not feel comfortable with some of the policies in place

Bishop has authorized those who worship at home, to continue partaking of the sacrament at home, just like you have been doing for the past few months.

For those who are able to come together as a ward to worship, please review all instructions below.

We will meet once a month, on the 4th Sunday.

We will hold SACRAMENT MEETING only.

There will be no 2nd hour.

Per Government instructions, and that of the First Presidency, we are instructed to meet in groups no more than 99.

Each family will be assigned a specific time so that we can make sure to keep our numbers below a 99 person max.

We have geo-divided the ward as best we could, please see the MAP below to find your color designation. (CLICK MAP TO DOWNLOAD)

There will be 3 meetings for our ward. One at 9:00 am, another at 10:30 am and the last meeting of the day will be at 12:00 noon.

There may be a particular meeting that works best for you. But seeing that we will be only be meeting once per month, we ask that you keep to that assignment. This will help in the effort in keeping our numbers where we need them. For now, we will not rotate the meeting times to avoid confusion. We will keep this schedule until further notice.

Parking
We are asking everyone to park and enter the building on the southside. Our hope is if we limit the number of places that we congregate, it will limit the amount of cleaning that we will have to do between sessions. While we will be trying to primarily use the chapel, please feel free to use the bathrooms, mother’s lounge and drinking fountains on the south side of the building. Please know that these areas will be sanitized between each session, but not necessarily between each use.

Arrival Time
Please do not come down to the church more than 15 minutes early. This will give us the time to make sure to wipe down all door handles, doors, light switches, drinking fountains, bathrooms, pews, pulpit, piano, organ, and each sacrament tray before a new group arrives. This will also allow the previous group time to exit the building before the next group arrives. This will do three things:
Allow us to get all high traffic areas sanitized.
Ensure that we do not go over 99 people.
Help us to avoid congregating in groups.

Congregating & Social Distancing
Please avoid congregating in the lobby, and keep social distancing. I know this one will be the most difficult. Many of us have not seen each other for months and will want to say hi and catch up. We ask that you do not gather to talk in the foyers as best we can. Of course, we can be friendly and say hello, but we ask that you please help us keep everyone safe through social distancing as best we can.

Hand Sanitizer
As you enter the building we will have access to hand sanitizer in the foyer, for those who may want to use it. It is still somewhat difficult to get in large amounts so if you would like to bring small amounts from home for your own families use, please feel free to do so.

Masks **Updated**
With Governor Herbert’s recent announcement, we are asking that everyone who will be joining with us wear a mask. For those of you who may not have one please contact Luciana Paz who has some made by members of our ward at no cost.

Handshakes
As a bishopric, we are excited to see all of you. We look forward to saying hello. Please do not be offended that we will not be shaking anyone’s hands regardless of your feelings about it. We tend to shake a lot of hands during the day. To keep from possibly spreading any contamination we have decided that we will not be shaking hands before, after, or during our meetings. Please do not take it personally, but know of our love for each of you.

Chapel Seating
As you enter the chapel our benches will be marked. We will only be using every other row. This will keep an empty row in front of and behind each family. We also ask that you sit 6 feet apart from other families. With three separate groups, we should have plenty of room to accomplish this, so we will not be opening the overflow.

Hymnbooks
There will be no hymnbooks available. We encourage you to bring your electronic devices so that you can have access to the words of the hymns. We will try to select hymns that will be more familiar to everyone to help with this process. If there is not someone that can play the organ in each meeting, we will use the piano. If we do not have someone comfortable with playing the piano, we will sing a cappella.

Singing
There have been some recent reports out about the possible concern with singing in congregations. We will continue to sing in our meetings, except for those administering in the sacrament during the sacrament hymn while the emblems of the sacrament are exposed.

Sacrament
The sacrament has been our biggest area of concern. We are requiring that every member of the Aaronic priesthood wear a mask while administering in the sacrament, whether blessing, preparing, or passing. All of those helping with the sacrament will wash their hands prior to handling the emblems of the sacrament as well as before the meeting. During the sacrament hymn, each member blessing and passing the sacrament will sanitize their hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

We will also limit the number of people helping with the sacrament to two preparing, two blessing and four passing. This will cut things down, but it should not be a problem with the smaller congregation size. All of those administering the sacrament will sit 6 feet apart from one another unless they are from the same household.

Sacrament: Bread and Water
The bread will be broken and placed on the bread tray so that it does not touch any other piece as best as we can. This will help everyone from touching multiple pieces of bread as they partake of the sacrament. With the water, each Aaronic priesthood member passing will bring around 2 separate trays. One will have the water, with a cup in every other hole, the other will not have a top piece, which will be used to gather cups so you don’t have to worry about spilling some leftover water or having to get the cup into the small opening.

When passing the sacrament, the member of the priesthood will walk down the empty rows and pass the sacrament to each individual person, limiting the number of people who touch the handle on the tray.

Speakers
Speakers will be asked to sit with their families until it is their turn to address the congregation. As they are approaching the stand we will have time to wipe down the pulpit and microphone. The exception to this will be on testimony Sundays. We ask as you come up on the stand, and that you sit six feet apart from one another. We will still wipe down the pulpit and microphone between each individual.

Conclusion of the Meeting
At the conclusion of each meeting after the benediction, we ask that you leave the chapel row by row to allow everyone to try and social distance as we leave the building. At that point, we will begin trying to sanitize the areas of regular use mentioned earlier in preparation for the next session.

Bishopric
Not all members of the bishopric will be in each meeting. Some may be meeting with individuals for temple recommends and other interviews after their meeting. I know that this is a convenient time to meet with a member of the bishopric rather than coming down at a different time. We will do our best to accommodate this going forward. We will not be meeting with individuals spontaneously after or before a meeting. All of these appointments will need to be made in advance with Kevin Smith our executive secretary. We will do this so that we can make sure that you are counted as part of our 99 person max meeting in the building at the same time. This is why our session assignments are so important. This will allow us to meet with some individuals as well as have space for members of the Stake Presidency who may visit as well as any other stake officers or members of the high council.

Conclusion
As of now, this is the plan. We know that not every possible risk can be eliminated, but feel that if we follow this plan we will be able to safely meet and worship together.

Please reach out to a member of the Bishopric if you have any questions!
